The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the academic calendar for the 2024/2025 school year for all second-cycle institutions, KG/Primary and JHS. According to the statement issued by the GES, the academic year is set to begin on Wednesday, 30th October 2024.
The announcement also clarifies the transition for first-year students in schools operating under the Transitional Calendar. These students will conclude their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, 28th October 2024, and immediately advance to Form Two (2) without a break to commence the new academic year.
In addition, incoming first-year students for both Single Track and Transitional Schools are scheduled to start classes on Wednesday, 30th October 2024. Similarly, all continuing students in single-track schools are expected to return to school on the same day to begin the new academic year.
This schedule aims to align future academic years with a September start, ensuring students are prepared to sit for their 2024/2025 WASSCE (West African Senior School Certificate Examination) in May/June 2025.
The GES has directed Regional Directors to inform all Heads of Second Cycle Institutions to ensure the seamless implementation of the 2024/2025 academic calendar.
GES Reopening Date for Public Schools
- Opening Date: The academic year begins on Wednesday, 30th October 2024 for all second-cycle institutions.
- First-Year Students: Incoming first-year students for Single-Track and Transitional Schools will also begin school on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024.
- Continuing Students: All continuing students in Single Track Schools will reopen for the new academic year on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024.
- Transition for Current Students: Current first-year students in Transitional Calendar schools will end their 2023/2024 academic year on Monday, 28th October 2024, and will be promoted to Form Two to continue the new academic year.
