GCRA Gauteng Bursary

Applications for the Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) Bursary are now open! Eligible youth in Gauteng are encouraged to carefully read the criteria below & apply before 29 February 2024.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

Below are the eligibility of an individual requires before he/she applies for the Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA). Bursary

  1. A South African Citizen
  2. Youth who matriculated and resided in Gauteng
  3. Must be between the ages of 18 to 35 years
  4. Those intending to study an undergraduate/postgraduate programme (Full Time)
  5. Those who have been accepted at any accredited higher education institution in South Africa.
  6. Those who fall under the financial assistance category and study towards STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) qualification.

Document Required

Below are the documents required to apply for the Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) Bursary.

  1. Certified ID Copy
  2. Certified Matric result or statement
  3. Acceptance letter from an accredited Higher Education Institution.
  4. Proof of Residence: (Municipality bill or letter from Ward councillor)
  5. A motivational letter written by the applicant
  6. Academic record (if an applicant continues with undergraduate/postgraduate studies?)
  7. Certified IDs from both parents.
  8. Certified salary advice/proof of incoming for both parents.
  9. In the case of deceased parents, provide a death certificate.
  10. Single parents attach proof in the form of an affidavit
  11. Parents or pensioners earning social Giants provide SASSA letter/affidavit

Note:

  1. If a student received a bursary when he/she turned 35, the student should know that the bursary will not be renewed in the following years.

Disclaimer:

  1. If your institution of choice is not in the position to claim allowance from GCRA through an invoice, GCRA will only pay tuition fees.
  2. If you have not heard from GCRA in 2 months after the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.

How to Apply

Below are the needs to start the application process:

  1. You need internet access
  2. The valid email address will be used as a “username.”
  3. Valid South Africa ID
  4. Students must register and create a profile online.

Application Link for the creation of profile:

  1. To apply, visit gcrabursary.gauteng.gov.za
  2. Once the profile has been created, the student will be able to login using the profile credentials on gcrabursary.gauteng.gov.za
  3. The student needs to tap on the application tab login and begin the application process (required information must be provided).

Explore the Bursary Type below:

  1. Top 3 (no fee-paying schools/SEN schools)
  2. Top Achieve (certification awarded by the MEC for Education and Youth Development)
  3. Financial Assistance (choice of financial assistance if you do not fall under Top 3 or Top Achiever)
  4. Bursary Renewal (use your old GCRA Bursary profile and select renewal). This is only if you continue with the same qualification GCRA previously funded for you.
  5. Bursary Reinstatement (select renewal, must have been funded by GCRA before and was suspended now applying reinstated?).

Submitting the Application:

  1. Accept the Terms and Conditions
  2. Submit the application
  3. SMS will be sent with a reference number to confirm your application (keep it safe)
  4. You can still amend and resubmit the application before the closing date.
