SASSA SRD Grant Identity Verification

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) requires you to complete an identity verification process to finalize your SRD Grant application.

To apply for the SASSA SRD Grant, use the following channel:

You only have to apply once via the SASSA SRD Online Application Portal or the above WhatsApp number and not many times on every channel. SASSA will only process one application received from each applicant.

How to Request for SASSA Identity Verification

Here’s how to complete the SASSA identity verification process to finalize your SRD Grant application.

  1. Go to the SASSA Website
  2. Click the “Request Identity Verification” button

SASSA will send you a message with instructions to complete the identity verification process. Note that only one request per day will be accepted and it may take up to two days for the message to be sent.

Once you receive the message, you will have three days to complete the identity verification process.

  • SRD Grant Payments (for clients who are approved for the month will be processed for disbursement
  • Clients are encouraged to view their SASSA SRD status for the exact SASSA payment date to be reflected in their bank accounts.

NB: funds will take about 2-3 working days to reflect in the client’s account after payment has been processed

Are you a COVID-19 SRD recipient who is approved but don’t have a pay date yet?

Please consider the following:

  1. If you requested cash send/ mobile money payment and were approved but have not yet received payment, this is due to the fact that SASSA could not connect your cellphone number and ID number beyond any doubt to each other.
  2. SASSA can thus not make any cash send payments.
  3. In this regard, clients are advised to rather provide SASSA with alternative banking details to ensure payment.

Are you a COVID-19 SRD recipient who is approved but don’t have a pay date yet?

Please consider the following:

  • If you have not provided SASSA with any banking details at all, please do so without delay by updating your bank details on the SASSA SRD website at srd.sassa.gov.za
  • If you requested SASSA to open a Postbank account for you, SASSA is unfortunately not in a position to do this anymore. It is recommended that you either open an account with Postbank yourself and provide SASSA with your Postbank banking details or open an account with a different bank and provide SASSA with the details to ensure payment.

NB: If you do not fall within this category, but have been approved and still not paid, it is recommended that you contact the SASSA Customer Care call center on 0800 60 10 11 for further assistance and investigation.
