About Wits Student Self-Service Portal

The University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg – Wits Student Self-Service Portal is a gateway where applicants can upload supporting documents, and view academic application status, financial Aid application, residence status as well as personal information.

Students can also access and print their fee statements, check their timetable and venues, view and amend personal information, check their application status, pay their fees online, and view final examination results, examination timetable as well as graduation dates.

  • Applicants – Your Password is your date of birth in (YYMMDD) format eg. 861224.
  • Current Students – Your Password is your current Student password.

Wits University Quick Guide to Start Online Registration

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide to online registration. To get started, check that you are cleared for registration:

New applicants must accept their Firm’s Offer before proceeding to register online. Please ensure that all required certified documentation for your academic qualifications has been provided to the Student Enrolment Centre in hard copy before you accept your Firm Offer. Applicants who upload academic qualifications via the Student Self-Service Portal would need to comply with this requirement.

  • Self-funded students must pay the first fee installment before they may register. If you are unable to make payment before registration, you may apply to postpone the first fee payment on the Self-Service portal and may then proceed immediately with Online Registration.
  • Sponsored students can upload their letters online on the student Self-Service portal under financial aid. Students will be cleared online for registration and no manual letters will be accepted.
  • International students must be cleared by the International Students Office and pay 75% of the annual tuition fee and other related costs, as well as the on-campus accommodation fee on or before registration.

Students with historical debt must consult with the Fees Office in advance. If you are not cleared for registration, you will receive a message on the Self-Service Portal when you try register.

How to Register for Online Courses via Wits Student Self-Service Portal

To get started, check the registration dates for your faculty and proceed to login wits university student self service portal.

  1. Login to Wits University Student Self-Service Portal (https://self-service.wits.ac.za)
  2. Tap on the Register Online tile or Academic Information tile
  3. Complete the medical aid and Tap the Next button to continue
  4. Complete the Financial Declaration section
  5. Accept the term and conditions
  6. Tap Apply to Proceed
  7. Verify your details
  8. Tap on the “Register Online

Well done!!! continue with the fixed or flexible curriculum.

Fixed Curriculum:

  1. Select Courses & Slots
  2. Tap “Validate”
  3. Tap “Enroll”
  4. Accept Terms & Conditions
  5. Tap on the “Submit” button

Flexible Curriculum:

  1. Tap on “Choices”
  2. Select “Courses”
  3. Tap on “Add to the Planner”
  4. Click “Return”
  5. Click “Validate”

Proof of Online Course Registration

You are now registered. To send the Proof of Registration to your email:

  1. Access the Academic Information tab
  2. Tap on Proof of Registration
  3. Click on the View details button
  4. Enter the year/term
  5. Tap to Generate

To Print your Proof of Registration,

  1. Access your Wits Email address
  2. Open the attachment
  3. Tap on the “Print” button or Save it as a PDF


  • New undergraduate year students complete the Biographical Questionnaire.
  • To finish the Online Registration Process, please apply for Clubs and Societies or Parking on the Student Self-Service Portal. Sign Out.
  • After you have registered, please collect/renew your student card, and parking permit (if applicable) before the academic year begins.
  • If you are a first-year student, collect your registration bag from the Student Enrolment Centre.
  • Access the NSFAS Student Portal to apply for funding and check your status regularly.

Collect or renew your “Kudu” card as follows:

  •  Braamfontein Campus

Hall 29 on West Campus-New and Returning Students, or Concourse, Solomon Mahlangu (Senate) House at the Kudu Cards Centre – All categories of Campus users.

  • Parktown Campus

Education Campus Admin Black first floor-All categories of Campus users.

You are required to provide proof of identification, such as your ID document, passport, or driver’s license.
