WASSCE results on hold over government’s GHC118m indebtedness

In a press release issued on December 9, 2024, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) disclosed that delays in the release of funds from the Ministry of Education are affecting the timely release of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) commenced the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates on August 5, 2024, and successfully concluded on September 20, 2024.

Marking of the essays and other practical components began on November 7, 2024, and finished on November 29, 2024. However, scanning the objective answer sheets, scheduled for November 1 to November 30, 2024, has not yet been completed due to a breakdown of the scanners.

The Council is awaiting an additional GHC 118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education, which is necessary for repairing the scanners and allowing the scanning process and other post-examination activities to resume smoothly.

The Council appeals to its valued examination officials and suppliers to be patient. Payments for their services will be made as soon as the Ministry of Education releases the required funds.

Additionally, members of the public are urged to disregard any information circulating on social media regarding the release dates of results. The results will be made available as soon as the challenges affecting post-examination activities are resolved.
