The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has officially released the 4Es timetable for the 2024 national examinations, including the introduction of the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC) for the award of the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE). This marks the first time candidates under this new curriculum will be examined.

Key Features of the 2024 UNEB Examination Timetable
Introduction of the New Lower Secondary Curriculum (NLSC)
- Subjects: The new curriculum features 36 subjects compared to the 46 subjects in the old curriculum.
- Assessment: 80% of the total score will come from the End of Cycle (EoC) exams administered by UNEB, while the remaining 20% will come from Continuous Assessment (CA) conducted in schools.
New Subjects and Modalities
- Ugandan Sign Language (U.S.L.) will be assessed for the first time with 72 pioneer candidates.
- Physical Education (P.E.) is also being introduced, with 15,000 candidates registered across 1,341 centers.
- Foreign Language Assessments: UNEB will assess listening and speaking skills for languages like Latin and Arabic, previously tested using only written exams.
- Other foreign languages: 4,490 candidates will sit exams in French, Arabic, Latin, German, and Chinese.

Local and Indigenous Language Assessments
- Eleven local languages will be assessed, including Uganda Sign Language, Luganda, Lusoga, Runyankore/Rukiga, and Ateso.
Special Examination Modalities
- A separate timetable has been established for oral, speaking, and listening tests for applicable languages, along with practical exams in subjects such as Physical Education, Nutrition and Food Technology, and Technology and Design.
Accessing the 4Es Timetable
- Heads of Centers can download timetables from school portals, and hard copies are being distributed to ensure every candidate has access. Braille versions are also available for visually impaired candidates.
Four Examinations (4Es)
UNEB will conduct four types of examinations in 2024.
- UCE Examination (NLSC) based on the new curriculum.
- UCE Transitional Examination: A one-time exam based on the old curriculum for those repeating or who missed the 2023 exams.
- Primary Leaving Examination (PLE).
- Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE).
