UG Legon Awaiting Admission for WASSCE Applicants

The Admission Office of the University of Ghana (UG), Legon wishes to inform all applicants who applied as awaiting WASSCE results candidates to its undergraduate and diploma programmes to refer to entry cut-off aggregates for various programmes and make realistic choices.

University of Ghana Degree Programme Admission Requirements

An applicant for admission to a degree programme at the University of Ghana must meet the following requirements;

Minimum Academic Requirements

Core Subjects: Applicants must have at least credits in the following:

  • WASSCE: A1 – C6
  • SSSCE: A – D
  • English, Core Mathematics, and Integrated Science (for Science-related programmes) or Social Studies (for non-Science-related programmes).

Elective Subjects:

  • For Science or Agriculture disciplines: Three elective subjects in Science.
  • For non-Science disciplines: Three elective subjects in General Arts or Business.

Aggregate Requirements

  • The total aggregate for six subjects (core and electives) must not exceed 30.
  • For regular undergraduate admissions, a minimum aggregate of 24 is mandatory.

Additional Subject-Specific Requirements

Science applicants must have at least:

  • WASSCE: Grade C6
  • SSSCE: Grade D
  • In Social Studies or Life Skills.

Non-Science applicants must have at least:

  • WASSCE: Grade C6
  • SSSCE: Grade D
  • In Integrated Science or Core Science.

In the calculation of aggregates, Integrated Science will be used for Science programmes and Social Studies for non-science programmes. However, all applicants must have at least credit passes (C6) in both Integrated Science and Social Studies.

Applicants must meet these academic qualifications to be eligible for admission to degree programmes at the University of Ghana.

Legon Cut-Off Points

Legon Admission cut-off points refer to the minimum scores or qualifications required for entry into specific programs or courses at the University of Ghana. The University determined these cut-off points and can vary from one program to another

Programme Selection Procedures

  1. Programmes in the College of Health Sciences (excluding those at the School of Biological and Allied Health Sciences) are FIRST CHOICE
  2. For the Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme, applicants must select up to four subject bouquets in order of preference.
  3. Applicants choosing Sc. Administration or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) as first choices are advised to select BA bouquets as second choices to improve admission chances.
  4. The following programmes in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences must be selected as FIRST CHOICE only:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine
  • Sc. Information Technology
  • Sc. Computer Engineering
  • Sc. Biomedical Engineering
  1. The second and third choice options must be from the Sciences.
  2. BA students must offer three subjects at Level 100, two at Levels 200 and 300, and one or two at Level 400.
  3. Applicants with a Certificate/Diploma from UG (1996 onward) must include their Student ID numbers.
  4. Applicants with WAEC Ordinary/Advanced Level Certificates are not eligible for admission.
  5. Mature Students Admission has been reintroduced for the BA Distance Education Programme.
  6. Admission is transparent, and applicants should avoid individuals claiming to assist for a fee.
  7. Qualified applicants not meeting competitive cut-off points can opt for the Fee-paying Scheme, indicated on the application form

Steps in purchasing E-voucher through USSD

  1. Dial *887*9# on all networks
  2. Enter UG
  3. Authorise Payment
  4. The user receives an e-voucher via SMS after successful payment.

I purchased the UG e-voucher via the USSD code, but my money was deducted, and I did not receive my Serial No and PIN. What should I do?
In case you do not receive an SMS after a successful transaction, you can retrieve the e-voucher by following these steps:

  1. Dial *887*9#.
  2. Select “Yes”.
  3. Choose “Retrieve E-Voucher”.
  4. The details of the E-Voucher will be displayed, including the University of Ghana, Serial Number, and PIN.

Discover the University of Ghana (UG) Legon Application Portal to access the Undergraduate Applicant Admission form. After completing all the needed parts of the form, make sure you fully save and submit your application for processing.

Post-WASSCE Application for University of Ghana (UG)  Awaiting Applicants

After the release of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, the University of Ghana (UG) – Legon advises applicants to take the following steps:

  1. Log into the UG Applications Portal
  2. Applicants must verify the accuracy of their entries, specifically:
  • Full Name and Date of Birth
  • Examination records:
  • Index Number
  • Exam Month
  • Exam Year

Refer to Cut-off Aggregates to review the UG entry cut-off aggregates for various programmes to assess eligibility.

Applicants should ensure all records are accurate to avoid issues with their application process. Applicants should visit www.ug.edu.gh and review all relevant information before applying.
