South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) announces social grant increases effective October 2024, with new payment dates. Find out the updated grant amounts and payment schedule for older persons, disability, and children’s grants
The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has confirmed an increase in social grant payments, set to take effect from October 2024. This adjustment is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to financially support vulnerable citizens nationwide.
New SASSA Grant Amounts
From October 2024, the following grant amounts will be increased:
- Old Age Grant (Below 75 years): Raised from R2 180 (April 2024) to R2 190.
- Old Age Grant (Above 75 years): Increased from R2 200 (April 2024) to R2 210.
- War Veteran’s Grant: Upgraded from R2 200 (April 2024) to R2 210.
- Disability Grant: Adjusted from R2 180 (April 2024) to R2 190.
- Care Dependency Grant: Increased from R2 180 (April 2024) to R2 190.
These adjustments follow an earlier increase in April 2024, demonstrating the government’s commitment to enhancing the financial well-being of grant recipients.

October 2024 Payment Schedule
In addition to the grant increases, SASSA has also released the payment schedule for October 2024:
- Older Persons’ Grants: Payments will be available from 2 October 2024, including any grants linked to these accounts.
- Disability Grants: Payments will begin on 3 October 2024, alongside grants tied to these accounts.
- Children’s Grants and Other Grants: Beneficiaries will receive payments from 4 October 2024.
Important Payment Advice
SASSA urges beneficiaries not to rush to withdraw their entire grant amount on the first day of payment. Funds will remain safe in beneficiaries’ accounts and can be withdrawn as needed. The agency recommends using the SASSA card for transactions and withdrawing small amounts when necessary, to ensure safety.
