President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially inaugurated the National Service Authority (NSA) at the Ridge Arena, Alisa Hotel in Accra, signaling a pivotal shift in Ghana’s youth empowerment and national development strategy.

Commitment to Youth and National Development
During the launch, attended by dignitaries such as the Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, deputy ministers, business leaders, and traditional authorities, President Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to fostering youth development, national cohesion, and civic responsibility.
He highlighted the National Service Scheme’s (NSS) critical role in Ghana’s development, particularly in education, health, and agriculture. Annually, the NSS deploys over 150,000 graduates, including 50,000 in the education sector, saving Ghana approximately 3 billion cedis in wage costs.
Transformation into a National Authority
The transition of the NSS into the National Service Authority (NSA) under Act 1119 empowers the organization to expand its role in nation-building. The NSA’s new mandate includes mobilizing, deploying, and equipping personnel with skills essential for employability and future success.
President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence in Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s potential to build on the foundation laid for the NSA. He also commended Director-General Osei Assibey Antwi for his transformative leadership and described the NSA as a legacy of his tenure.
Enhanced Opportunities and Service Delivery
Director-General Osei Assibey Antwi emphasized the profound impact of National Service personnel on Ghana’s economic growth. He assured that the NSA would create improved deployment opportunities and enhance service quality under the new Act.
Focus on Education and STEM
Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education, lauded the President’s dedication to transforming education, particularly through promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The establishment of the NSA marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s development, ensuring that the nation’s youth continue to contribute meaningfully to national progress under the enhanced framework of Act 1119.
