After benchmarking with similar platforms, the NSFAS Online Application Portal has been redesigned to be more user-friendly and closer to other platforms that prospective applicants are accustomed to such as WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The application process has been simplified and the questions asked are easier to understand.
New channels include a NSFAS mobile App, Short code (USSD), and WhatsApp. Through these channels, one can apply for NSFAS funding, track the application status, and cancel applications, amongst others.
Additionally, applicants will be able to pause the process and continue at a later stage without restarting from scratch.

NSFAS Mastercard
In the 2023 academic year, NSFAS will pilot this solution with several students first, following which the full roll-out will occur in a phased approach.
The plan is to have all NSFAS beneficiaries at universities and TVET colleges receive their allowances and transact through the NSFAS Mastercard.
NSFAS Student Accommodation Portal
In the 2023 academic year, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will roll out a student accommodation portal that will ensure efficiency in areas such as grading and accreditation of accommodation, costs, paying off private accommodation providers, small accommodation providers (“backrooms”) and increased student accommodation capacity.
Furthermore, the process to increase the capacity of accreditation providers is underway.
