What is the National Rental Assistance Scheme, NRAS
The National Rental Assistance Scheme, NRAS is a scheme that has been developed by the Government of Ghana to facilitate accessibility and affordability of rental housing.
About the National Rental Assistance Scheme (NRAS)
The National Rental Assistance Scheme, NRAS will provide low-interest loans to eligible Ghanaians to enable them to pay rent in advance, to be repaid every month to match the tenor of the rent.
- All applications will undergo automated scoring to determine if applicants are approved or denied.
- The Rental Assistance payments will go directly to the applicant’s landlord when approved.
- Successful applicants will make monthly payments to the Scheme.
- Beneficiaries pay low interest on their respective rent advance.
- Self-employed applicants who qualify based on the eligibility criteria will receive rental assistance.
- The monthly rent deduction or payable MUST not exceed 30% of the applicant’s household income.
- Beneficiaries may re-apply (renew) for additional Rental Assistance as long as the rent does not exceed 30% of the household income.
- Partners can combine their monthly or annual incomes to meet the 30% income requirement.
- The NRAS Scheme notifies applicants of their results or applications status within 5-10 days after the applications are received
- Students who can satisfy the eligibility criteria or whose parents can guarantee for them will be supported by the Scheme
Who is Eligible for National Rental Assistance Scheme Support?
To be eligible for the Scheme, the applicant must show proof of the following minimum require merits:
- Be a Ghanaian.
- Possess a valid Ghana Card
- Must be an adult of eighteen (18) years and above.
- Verifiable employment and earned income
- Must have a verifiable bank statement (3 months payslips, three (3) months of bank statements, or mobile money statements)
- Rent payable must not exceed 30 percent of the household income
Getting Started with NRAS Rent Advance Support in Ghana
- National Rental Assistance Scheme focuses on paying your Rent Advance directly to the landlord that you pay back in monthly installments.
- To get started, complete an online or paper application and submit your proof of income, employment, identification, passport picture, and an application processing fee of 100 cedis to our office. National Rental Assistance Scheme will verify the authenticity of your submitted application and supporting documents.
- In 5 to 10 business days, National Rental Assistance Scheme will evaluate your affordability for the rent amount being sorted and notify you of your application acceptance or denial. If your application is accepted, the National Rental Assistance Scheme will advise you to begin an apartment or room search and rent advance payment made directly to the Landlord as soon as possible.
- After the rent advance payment is made, you will be obligated to make your low and affordable monthly rent payment to National Rental Assistance Scheme at the beginning of each month.
