QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is Barbados primary acute care medical facility and provides quality, extensive care in a wide array of medical specialties. Its bed capacity is 600, and it is also an accredited teaching hospital affiliated with the University of the West Indies. Cave Hill Campus. The institution is one of 7000 health care facilities globally whose best practices for health care meet the standards of Accreditation Canada and has been accredited ‘Gold Status’. The QEH has begun the transformation of its people, processes, and product delivery towards becoming a truly patient-centered institution.

JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse under the supervision of the Nursing Officer ensures that holistic needs assessment of patient and family are completed and documented; assures quality and safe patient care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measures health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, makes or recommends necessary adjustments and follows hospital and nursing philosophies and standards. In the absence of the Nursing Officer assumes responsibility for the management of daily operations, including work allocation, deployment, and supervision of staff to ensure the smooth running of the ward/unit

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A fully Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana who holds an Associate Degree or a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Nursing with a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse and The Registered Nurse must be either, a Critical Care, a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, an Emergency Room, a Peri-operative, an Ophthalmic, and an Artificial Kidney Unit, a Pediatric, a Geriatric, a Public Health or a Psychiatric trained Nurse. Experience in Medical-Surgical Nursing is also required.

THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND WELLNESS

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse under the supervision of the Nursing Officer ensures that the holistic needs of patients and family are completed and documented. The nursing procedures are performed in accordance with the ICN code of ethics, hospital policy, and the nurse’s Act: assuring a safe and secure environment in accordance with universal standards. In the absence of the Nursing Officer, assumes responsibility for the management of the unit.

(a) Geriatric Services

The Geriatric services comprise of four small teaching hospitals: The Geriatric Hospital in Beckles Road being the largest with 278 beds while the overall capacity of Geriatric Services has approximately 500 beds. The hospitals are mandated to provide institutional health and rehabilitative care for elderly persons, sixty-five (55) years and older. The goal is to provide sustained quality health care to all clients of the Geriatric Services.

The candidate must be highly motivated, patient-centered, and professional in their delivery of care.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A fully Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana who holds an Associate Degree or a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Nursing with a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse

(b) Psychiatric Hospital

The Psychiatric Hospital is the lone mental health institution on the island with a bed capacity of 535 patients. Care is delivered under the Mental Health Act Cap 45. This Hospital offers a variety of mental health services inclusive of psychological recreational, occupational social work, and drug rehabilitation therapy

The candidate must be a highly motivated individual able to deliver empathetic, competent, patient-centered care at the hospital in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A fully Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana who holds an Associate Degree or a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Nursing with a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse with post qualification in Psychiatric Nursing Suitable Candidates highly motivated

(c) Primary Health Care (Polyclinics)

Primary Health Care, the first level of care, is delivered through nine polyclinics which are located within easy access to their catchment areas across the island Health services are accessible across geographical, fiscal social, and cultural realms

A multidisciplinary team equipped to deliver a wide range of health care services daily to the general population. The Polyclinics are teaching institutions and are affiliated with the West Indies and The Ross University of Medicine,

The candidate must be a highly motivated individual able to deliver empathetic, competent, patient-centered care at the polyclinic in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

A fully Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana who holds an Associate Degree or a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Nursing with a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Registered Nurse with post qualification in Midwifery

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Each candidate is required to provide the following:

  • Updated curriculum vitae
  • Three (3) copies of nursing qualifications with original certificates for Verification
  • Proof of current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana,
  • Two (2) original police certificates of character dated within the last six (6) months;
  • Two (2) reference letters dated no more than six (6) months from the date of submission
  • Biodata page of a valid passport and must not expire within two (2) years
  • The original and one copy of the Birth Certificate
  • Three (3) certified passport-sized photos:
  • Where applicable, evidence of change name (eg. marriage certificate);
  • Completed Pre-Employment Health Screening Form with evidence of Medical Immunization Record of MMR, (2) doses; HEP B. (3) doses and Lab evidence of immunity (immune or non-immune) must be provided after the vaccine series is completed, pollo, DPT. yellow fever, BCG, Chicken Pox (2) doses, and COVID-19 Vaccination (s)
  • Letter of appointment to the Service if applicable:
  • Registration with the Nursing Council of Barbados Form
  • Possession of current Basic Life Support certification and
  • Nurses with critical care experience should possess Advanced Life Support Certification
