What Is A Matric Certificate?
A Matric certificate is also referred to as A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Amended Senior certificate, issued to students who have met the requirements of obtaining the Matric Certificate.
The South African Comprehensive Assessment Institute (SACAI) has designed an online portal for parents of National Senior Certificate (NSC) candidates to get access to information, view, check results as well as download timetables (PDF).
Besides, candidates who wish to request replacement or combine their certificates can download the application forms online via the SACAI Candidate Portal.
How to Access Your Matric Certificate

How to Replace Matric Certificate
If you have lost or damaged your original Matric certificate, you will have to apply for a replacement through the Department of Basic Education (DBE). Here is what you will need:
- An affidavit stating what happened
- The original national/ senior certificate (if it is damaged),
- A certified copy of your ID
- Proof of payment
Types of Matric Certificates
There are different types of Matric certificates depending on the level of achievement. They are:
National Senior Certificate Pass
This Matric certificate requires the following :
- 40% minimum for your home language
- 40% for another 2 subjects
- You can fail a subject – even your first additional language
- You must then get 30% or more for the other 6 making a total of 6 passes
Higher Certificate Pass
This Matric certificate requires the following:
- 40% for your Home Language.
- At least 40% in two other subjects.
- A minimum of 30% for three other subjects.
- One of the two language requirements to qualify for a Higher Certificate
Diploma Pass
This Matric certificate requires the following:
- 40% in the home language
- 40% for the three other high-credit subjects, excluding the home language
- 30% for two, other languages
Bachelor’s Degree Pass
This Matric certificate requires the following:
- 40% for your home language
- A minimum of 50% for four other high-credit subjects
- At least 30% for two other subjects
