KNEC CBA Online Grade School Selection and Registration Process
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) opened the CBA Portal for the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) assessments, where learners will have a chance to choose preferred schools as they progress through the 6-2-3-3 system.
A learner will be able to register for a school of choice and at the same time transfer from one institution to another.
How to Access the KNEC CBA Portal
Upon registration of a learner, a parent will be required to access the CBA portal through the KNEC website.
- Explore the KNEC CBA Portal
- Login with your credentials
- Select a Grade and Level
- Tap on Register Learners
- Tap Add Learners
- Capture learner details as required
- Tap on the Save Learner button
Steps to Register a Learner by a School
Learners can only be registered at Grade 3 for the Age-Based pathway or at the Foundation and Intermediate levels for the Stage-Based pathway.
- Access the CBA Portal through the KNEC website: www.knec.ac.ke
- Navigate to the CBA PORTAL or by using the URL: https://cba.knec.ac.ke
- Login and select a Grade or Level
- Click on the Register Learners button
- Click on the Add Learner(s) button
- Capture learner details as required
- Click on the Save Learner button
To amend the learner’s details:
- Select the learner,
- Click on the Edit button
- Save the learner button to update the details
To remove a learner from the registration list:
- Select the learner
- Click on the Delete button
How to Edit on the CBA Portal
Should a parent make an error in the registration process, the government has made it possible to amend it. At this stage,
- Access the KNEC CBA Portal
- Select a Learner
- Tap on the Edit button
- Make all the necessary corrections
- Tap the Save Learner button, after you have been requested to update the details.
NB: To remove a learner, a parent will be asked to select the learner and then click on the Delete button.
Transferring Schools for CBC Learners
According to the exam body, a learner transferring to another school will have to provide the assessment number. If not available, the assessment number can be searched using the learner’s previous school code or school name.
At this stage, a learner will have to access the portal through the KNEC website and follow the below procedures;
- Access the KNEC CBA Parent Portal
- Select a Grade or Level
- Tap on the Register Learners
- Tap on Add Learner from Another School (transfer)
- Enter the Assessment Number for the learner
- Click on the Find button
- Tap on the Transfer button
After completing the above-required procedures, a transfer request shall be sent to the previous school. Upon accepting the request, the learners shall be transferred automatically. parents can also view learners details.
In Summary
KNEC advised that in case a learner faces challenges with the transfer process, he/she can contact the Sub County Director of Education.
The government made it possible for a parent or learner to exercise full authority by declining a school of no choice. This also involves steps in which a learner will still have to visit the CBA portal.
At this stage, one is advised to follow the first three procedures then at the second last stage, you will be asked to Accept to release the learner or Decline to reject the transfer.
