HELB Student Loan under Old and New Funding Models
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) in conjunction with the Universities Fund invites applications for the 2024/2025 Financial Year First time, Second, and Subsequent Undergraduate and TVET Scholarship and Loans, from Kenyan continuing students placed by the Kenya Universities & Colleges Central Placement Service [KUCCPS] and those in Self-sponsored Programs in Public & Private Universities in Kenya and the East African Community that is recognized by the Commission for University Education [CUE].
Student Eligibility
- Eligible students are TEVT and undergraduate continuing students applying for first-time, second, and subsequent student scholarships and loans.
- First-time applicants with No ID can make their loan and scholarship application with their KCSE index number and attach their birth certificate or waiting card in place of their ID.
- HELB Scholarship & Loan application for Minors and applicants above 18 years old.
- If you are below 18 years old, you are allowed to apply for a Loan and Scholarship using your KCSE Index number and attach a copy of your birth certificate in place of the National ID card.
- If you are above 18 years old and yet to be issued a National ID card, you are allowed to apply for a Loan and Scholarship using your KCSE Index number and attach evidence of ID application (waiting card) and KCSE result slip or KNEC KCSE results confirmatory message.
HELB Requirements for TVET and Undergraduate Scholarship & Loan First-Time Applications
The following documents are required to complete your HELB online application under the old and new Funding Models (NFM).
Applicant’s
- Valid email address(should belong to the applicant and be accessible).
- Telephone number. (registered under the applicant’s name. If a minor is registered under the parent’s/guardian’s name).
- KCPE index number and year of examination.
- Copy of the sponsorship letter (in PDF) if you were sponsored in Primary school.
- KCSE index numbers and year of examination
- Copy of the sponsorship letter (in PDF) if you were sponsored in Secondary school.
- University/College admission number
- Passport-size photo (in jpeg/jpg/png format).
- Copy of your National ID/Maisha card (both sides in PDF).
- Birth certificate in PDF (if you are under 19 years of age and don’t have an ID)
- Valid bank account number or MPESA number (registered in your name).
Parent’s Credentials
- Parents’ National IDs and registered telephone numbers.
- Copy of your parent(s) death certificate if deceased (in PDF).
Guarantor’s
- Two guarantors’ ID numbers and registered telephone numbers (can be your parents).
