Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) Application

The Government of Ghana, through the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), is implementing the Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF), where 700 businesses across various sectors can access grants towards upgrading the skills of their workforce.

About Ghana Skills Development Fund

The Ghana Skills Development Fund (GSDF) is funded by the World Bank through the International Development Association (IDA), with the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) as the implementing agency under the Ministry of Education.

With USD 60 million financial support from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Ghanaian enterprises and institutions can access up to GH¢1,650,000 in this year’s round of applications.

GSDF is a challenge fund that addresses the skills and technological needs of enterprises operating in both the formal and informal sectors of Ghana’s economy. The Fund is a demand-driven response to two of the most critical challenges encountered by the productive sectors in Ghana, namely a qualified and skilled labor force and the acquisition and development of technology towards increased productivity and practical innovations.

The Fund supports initiatives that address the need for continuous skill upgrading of enterprises especially the enterprises with high growth potential, as well as women-led enterprises with women-dominated workforce and persons living with disabilities (PWD). It also offers support to enterprises in other sectors with exceptionally strong potential for productivity improvement and job creation.

Part of the grants was also given to support training institutions to develop demand-driven innovative training content required by the industry for enhanced productivity and competitiveness.

How to Apply for the Ghana Skills Development Fund

GSDF now invites eligible small and medium enterprises, trade associations, and training institutions to apply for grant support.

Please note that only enterprises that are 3 years and above, qualify to apply. Start-ups need not apply.

GSDF Grant

GSDF offers grant support for the following activities:

  1. Formal Sector Enterprises’ skills upgrading
  2. Informal Sector /MSEs skills upgrading
  3. Training Innovation & Greening Grants

Expected outcomes of GSDF funding support are increased productivity and competitiveness of beneficiary enterprises leading to job creation, increased incomes and better livelihoods for employers and employees, master crafts persons and apprentices, as the case might be Women-led businesses, and enterprises with women-dominated workforce, as well as persons living with disabilities, are especially encouraged to apply.
