Common Core Programme (CCP) Curriculum and its implementation

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) on  On Friday, 10th September 2021, held a stakeholder consultative meeting with Publishers on the theme – “CCP Curriculum and its implementation: the role of the Publisher”. The event took place at the Accra College of Education. It was well attended by over 70 publishers from across the country.

Purpose of the meeting

The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate and discuss how publishers could help with the implementation and rollout of the Common Core Programme (CCP) curriculum implementation for JHS 1 (Basic 7) to JHS 3 (Basic 9) next academic year – 2021/2022.

The Role of the Publishers

Madam Joana Vanderpuje, Acting Director for the Instructional Resources Directorate, took participants through the CCP curriculum: concept, rationale, learning areas and features. In addition, Mr. Kenneth Wontumi, a Senior Technical Officer at the Instructional Resources Directorate, also made a presentation with a focus on the role and expectations of the publisher – the production of instructional resources: textbooks – in support of the implementation of the Common Core Programme (CCP) curriculum.

Suggestions and Recommendations

Mr Reginald Quartey led the Q &A session. The session solicited suggestions and recommendations from the publishers on the following:

  1. Submission Package – JHS 1-3 as one Book or Separate Books
  2. Submission Requirements and Processes
  3. In-House Quality Assurance

Erudite suggestions and recommendation based on these questions put forward have been noted for due consideration.

In his remarks, the Acting Director-General for NaCCA, Mr. John Mensah Anang, thanked publishers for responding to the Council’s invitation for this all-important exercise. He underscored the relevance of publishers, as current arrangements make them pivotal in the availability of textbooks in schools to support curriculum implementation.

He tasked them to be diligent in ensuring that contents to be churned out by them are in synch with the expected objectives as outlined by the curriculum. Also, he was quick to remind them that this is the first of series of meetings to be held in the build-up to the CCP roll-out and implementation.
