University of Maine Brightspace
- Brightspace is an online learning or course management system that supports sharing learning resources, student collaboration, learning assessment, and multiple means of communication between course members. UMaine is currently using Brightspace.
- Brightspace requires an Internet connection, Java, and is compatible with most browsers and operating systems. Please review the system requirements to determine if your system is compatible with Brightspace.
Making your course active for students for the semester
The University of Maine Brightspace course shell is automatically generated for all UMS courses. By default, courses are created as not “Active” in Brightspace. Auto-populate enrollments are done every 20 mins from Mainstreet enrollment data into the Brightsapce course shell.
To make your Brightspace course “Active” for students to access:
- “Course Admin” via the navbar on Brightspace
- “Course Offering Information” section
- Toggle “Course is Active” and Save

- Locate and Tap on admission
- Under Admission, Locate and Tap on UMaine Online

- Under Resources, Tap on Technology Support
- On Technology Support Page, Locate Resources for Students, and Tap on Access Brightspace Link to Proceed and Access the Portal
