Primary Purpose of the Job

To provide safe custodial care and correction to offenders through effective rehabilitation and reintegration programs for the protection of the society

Degree Programmes

  • Psychology, Social Work, Correctional Management, Security Management, Risk Management, Theology (Ordained Minister of Religion), Primary Education, Secondary Education, Project Management, Transport Management, General Logistics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering Multimedia, Graphic Design, Archives and Records Management, Library, and Information Studies, Business Administration (Entrepreneurship and Enterprise), Psychiatric Nursing, General Agriculture, Animal Science, Food Science and Technology, Network Security and Computer Forensics, Information Systems, and Data Management Mobile and Web Technologies, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Architectural Science, Networking and Telecommunications, Business Intelligence and Data Analytics, Information Systems (Business Information System), sound Engineering Computer Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Purchase and Supply Management

Salary Scale:

  • C4 (97 440 / 111 924) per annum at entry
  • C3 (116 112/ 138 756) per annum after completion of training
  • Progression along Botswana prison Service Scheme of Service after confirmation

  • 25 Working days per annum

Eligibility Criteria

Before submitting an application for employment at the Botswana Prison Service, an applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be of Botswana Citizens
  • Should be in possession of a valid National Identity Card (Omang)
  • Aged between 18/29 years
  • Physically and mentally fit
  • Have no adverse criminal record
  • Be of good character
  • Have a minimum height of 1.6 meters for males and 1.55 meters for females
  • Minimum body weight of 55kg for males and 45kg for females.
  • Have a Body Weight Mass Index (BMI) of 18/25.
  • Not pregnant at the time of recruitment and must not fall pregnant  throughout the duration of training
  • Have no visible tattoos on their bodies when wearing a Prison uniform.

Diploma

  • National Craft Certificate (NCC) in Heavy Plant Mechanic

Salary Scale

  • B1 (81 420/97 248) per annum at entry
  • C4 (97 440/ 11 924) per annum after completion of training
  • C3 (116 112/138 756) per annum after probation

  • 25 Working days per annum

Training

  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a twelve months initial Prison Officers Course.

Probation Period

  • To serve two years probation period
