Who Qualifies for NSFAS Funding?
You qualify for an NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2026 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:
- South African citizens or permanent residents
- SASSA grant recipients
- Applicants whose combined gross household income is not more than R350 000 annually.
- Persons with disabilities whose combined gross household income is not more than R600 000 per year.
- You must have an email account and cell phone number.
Note: If you are a SASSA recipient, then no proof of income is required, will be eligible for a funding award if you have registered at an institution and are academically eligible.
It is essential that during the application, an applicant provides their correct ID number, name(s), and surname as reflected in the ID document.

Tips to Keep Your NSFAS Account Safe
- Always keep your Identity Document (ID) and password safe.
- Do not share any of your personal information with anyone.
- Always log out of your account when using your personal computer, laptop, or internet cafe.
- Ensure to at least reset your password once a month. This will prevent fraudsters from having access to your recent password credentials. Keep your password safe.
